The Tangible Rituals Of Digital Memory
Digital belongings can have a physical presence. In design we can build upon those aspects of materiality that contribute to create attachment, such as aesthetic pleasure and sensorial experience. Framemory is a hybrid of material and digital: It houses meaningful digital images and offers opportunities for developing attachment over time in a nostalgic manner through the tangible interaction with the frame and the screen. It borrows metaphors from traditional photos: stroke the screen to "dust off" the age-old picture to make it clear; hold the frame and tell the story behind it to "warm up" the picture giving it back its color. As designers we can provide opportunities for creating a digital legacy, but storytelling and time are of the essence for me.
