The Journey of Solar System

Large-scale live interactive science popularization museum installation

Year: 2016.5 - 2016.8 | Teamwork & Commercial Project | My Role: Gameplay Designer & Programmer

INTRODUCTION

This is a newly completed standing exhibition hall in the hall of the Bridge of Information in China Science and Technology Museum, aiming to spread astronomical knowledge relevant to the solar system among visitors (mainly youngsters) through large stitched-up LED screen.

The core of the project is this science popularization programm developed with Unity3D. It puts less emphasis on interaction while more on interpretation. Mainly, visitors acquire knowledge through watching and listening. However, they can also take the initiative at any time, directly or indirectly interacting with the game and discovering some hidden knowledge and interesting interactive responses. This program is an exploration and trial of interactive science popularization under the context of museum exhibitions.

This project is based on the E-Go Painting project but customized in many major aspects: hardwares, goals, target users, ways of interaction, etc.

| Theme Setting
After discussion and brainstorm, we decided our theme of popularization to be  “Universe” for the following reasons:

| Knowledge Research
After careful consideration, we further narrow the theme of our project to Solar System for mainly two reasons:

1. The composition of solar system  match the 11: 3.5 aspect ratio of our target LED screen .
2. Since we live in solar system,  knowledge about solar system wouldn’t seem too remote and makes much more sense.
